Nila Rubia was created after 'Nila' otherwise known as Jasmine/Jessica,
had been living and working in Kerala, India selling her exclusive
collection of designer clothing in her own boutique for 2 years.
After meeting and working with a fellow designer, Nila Rubia was
created and formed from an inspirational trip to Jaipur in Rajasthan.
'Nila' met her husband and his family who all follow a line of
traditional textile artists, printing and dyeing according to
the typical customs of the region. Along with the back drop of
the stunning Mughal architecture and rich historical culture,
Nila Rubia's designs started to unfold within a very home spun
family environment. Promoting the art of hand block printing,
tie dyeing and various textile techniques which require immense
skill and attention to detail have become the priority in Nila
Rubia's collections. Restoring ancient block designs from Mughal
ancestry and reviving the traditions are all a huge part of the
designing process which is the true inspiration behind the making.
Some of the prints have historical reference but have been totally
re-invented in unique colour combinations and used in exclusive
styles that create the East meets West fusion evident in our clothing
collections.
Each Nila Rubia piece is completely unique and ethically hand-crafted
to keep these traditional arts and crafts alive, reminding us
of the cultural and historical link behind their making, this
is the heart of Nila Rubia's creations.
