From the picturesque village of Ditchling set on the edge of
the South Downs
to the Pink walled City of Jaipur, the first
glimmer of Nila Rubia was created in the Autumn of 2007 after
Leah Hopkinson met Jessica Siddall in India whilst she was travelling.
With an exchange of thoughts and a sparkle of new ideas they returned
to India together to find an ethical manufacturing unit for their
design collaborations.
On their trip to north India, they both got swept away in the
magical Rajasthani capital of Jaipur with its rich historical
beauty, Mughal inspired architecture and mouth watering flavours
of the East. The aroma of fragrant spices thrown together with
the pollution and chaos opened up a fresh new approach to their
creative ideas. Jaipur exposed Leah and Jessica to an entire treasure
trove of creative traditions and gave them a strong desire to
become immersed in it all. They were lucky enough to be introduced
to a small block printing set up where the first Nila Rubia collection
started to emerge and continues to do so today
The Nila Rubia collection is on display at our workshop and consists
of stunning silk ladies dresses, sumptuous silk skirts and a fantastic
selection of silk stoles, scarves and coats. We also have a beautiful
collection of merino wool shawls and wraps.
We will continue to delve deep into our imaginations to create
new designs and keep the fusion of East meets West close to our
hearts. So connect with us on our news page to read our latest
stories, find out where we are exhibiting and much more
.We
promise to keep you interested and will even take you on trips
