Nila Rubia is a label rooted in the 600 year old Mughal tradition, creating pieces expertly hand crafted in family run workshops. Ancient techniques are kept alive by a community of colour masters, wooden block carvers, dyers and tailors.
All our clothes are made without artificial fibres and where possible we use organic fabric and low impact dyes, free from harmful azo chemicals which are frequently used in clothing manufacture. We use natural materials, avoiding plastic and toxic substances, which is fixed in our mindset at the start of the design process – because mindsets shape the lives we lead and the future we create.
As a label who design and make solely within our family workshops in India, we couldn’t be more connected to the people who make your clothing and therefore more able to ensure fairness. We know who makes your clothes and their stories. We support fair wages, working conditions and freedom of choice.
By using ‘treasured local skills’ we create employment in rural areas of Jaipur (India), where work is often scarce and traditional ways are at risk of extinction. Next up, we intend to grow our efforts in developing ‘self-supporting initiatives’ for women and girls in the communities we work with.
We buy fashion because of how it makes us look and how it makes us feel. We feel better when we are authentic to our beliefs and values and take action to stand by them.
By embracing ‘Slow Fashion’ as the only way forward, we make a choice and a difference – one purchase at a time. Wear your values, feel good and be a part of the fabric of the future.
